How To Clean The Ducts In Mobile Home

The heat and air conditioning in a mobile home are delivered to each of the rooms through a network of ducts.

These ducts have been attached to vents and they are normally made of aluminum tubes. They are also sometimes made of rectangular shafts that run the full length of the mobile home.

The ducts normally appear to look like the letter H. The air ducts in the mobile home have to be taken out and cleaned from time to time to ensure that they perform perfectly without any problems.

This is because when the air ducts in the mobile home are not cleaned from time to time, they can trigger mold allergies in any of the people in the home who are sensitive to mold.

However, when it comes to the importance of cleaning out the air ducts, it is quite a controversial issue that the EPA has decided not to comment on due to the lack of data accreting to how beneficial indoor air quality is in a mobile home.

However, they have not said that you should not be cleaning out the air ducts of your mobile home, stating that there is no possibility of any harm coming out of doing it.

So, if you have been having problems with mold sensitivity issues in your mobile home, then you should try cleaning out your air ducts.

Let us now look at how you can clean the ducts of your mobile home easily.

So these are the tools you will need for cleaning the ducts. Once you have been able to assemble all these tools, we can now move on to the next part which is how to clean out the ducts.

How To Clean Mobile Home Ducts

Let us now look at the steps involved in cleaning out the ducts. Please try and follow the steps closely.

Cleaning the Inside of The Vents

The first step is to clean the vents. To start this, you will have to turn off the central heat and air unit.

After that, you then remove the vents and the register covers. You do this by loosening the screws with your screwdriver.

The screwdriver should be turned anticlockwise to get the screws removed. After that, you suction any loose dirt and debris out with the vacuum cleaner. You should try to reach as far as you can into the ducts.

Dissembling The Ducts

The next step is to disassemble the ducts. For this step, you will have to crawl under your mobile home and then remove all the bolts that are holding the ductwork in place.

This is done by turning the bolts in the counterclockwise direction with the suitably sized box-end wrench.

You can also do this part with a socket and ratchet wrench. You then pull the ducts free from the vents by tugging at them gently and dragging them out from under the mobile home. You then set them aside for cleaning.

Disinfecting The Ducts

After getting the ducts out from under the mobile home, the next thing to do is to get them disinfected.

For this part, you fill the garden pump sprayer with an effective mold-killing sanitizer. You then spray the cleaner into the duct. Make sure to get into the duct.

You then take the string mop and wet it with water. After that, you push it down into the duct and scrub all areas of the inside very well.

You then allow the mold-killing sanitizer to soak into the duct for some minutes before you continue.

Reassembling The Duct

After the mold-killing sanitizer has been left in the duct for some time, you then rinse it out with a garden hose with a spray nozzle attached to it.

Allow the ducts to dry out in the air for at least, 2 hours before you proceed. Now, position the ductwork under the mobile home again and then fit it back in place with the vents.

Turn the bolts back in the strap with the wrench. It should be in the clockwise direction. Each of the sections of the duct should be wrapped with heat and pressure-resistant tape to ensure that there are no leaks in the duct system.

Cleaning The Vent Covers

Now, the next thing to do is to clean out the vent covers. Each of the register and vent covers should be soaked in a gallon of water that has been mixed with 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid.

The vents should be left in the mixture for about an hour before you proceed. Scrub the vent covers with a cleaning brush and then rinse them in clean water.

Now pull the vent plate off the central unit and then wipe it clean with a damp cloth. You then pull out the filter and blow out the motor and the coil with the vacuum cleaner.

You then put the filter back and close the unit back again. After this, you replace all the registers and vent covers in place.

You should secure them in place with the screws, twisting them in place in the clockwise direction to get them tightened.

You Can Now Turn The Central Unit Back On

All this may look like a lot of work and you probably have your business to attend to during the day.
